Products Description of Calcium Chloride CAS#10043-52-4

Calcium chloride (CaCl₂) is a colorless, deliquescent solid that is highly soluble in water and ethanol. It can be produced through the reaction of calcium carbonate with hydrochloric acid or calcium hydroxide with ammonium chloride. Calcium chloride finds applications in medicine, as an antifreeze, and as a coagulant.

It has diverse industrial uses, including as a drying agent, road salt for melting ice and snow, dust-control agent, and for thawing building materials such as sand, gravel, and concrete. It is also used in the food and pharmaceutical industries and serves as a fungicide.

Additional applications include its use in desiccators, dehydration of organic liquids and gases, refrigeration brines, antifreeze solutions, concrete hardening accelerators, and as a food additive.

Safety and compatibility notes:

  • Solutions in water are weakly basic.

  • Reacts with zinc in the presence of moisture, generating highly flammable hydrogen gas.

  • Dissolves vigorously in water, releasing significant heat.

  • Incompatible with bromine trifluoride, 2-furan, and percarboxylic acids.

  • May corrode certain building materials and metals when moisture is present.
