L-(+)Sodium Glutamate CAS#142-47-2
L-(+)sodium glutamate (monosodium L-glutamate, MSG) provides a distinctive “umami” taste, which differs from the four basic flavors of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. MSG is widely used worldwide as a flavor enhancer. Rather than being a direct taste agent, it acts as a complex flavor enhancer for gravies, meats, poultry, sauces, and various other food combinations.
In addition, MSG is employed to improve the taste of tobacco and is used medically in the treatment of hepatic coma. As an amino acid salt, MSG is considered safe for use in cosmetics, including skin care products, when applied at appropriate concentrations.
