Polystyrene industrial-grade product has a purity of ≥99% and appears as a colorless, transparent solid or granules with no odor.

It has a melting point of approximately 240°C, while it decomposes upon boiling. The vapor pressure is negligible at 25°C, and the relative density is about 1.05 at 20°C.

The material is insoluble in water, but soluble in benzene, toluene, and chloroform. It is generally stable under normal conditions but is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and certain organic solvents.
