Product Description of Direct Red 23 (CAS#3441-14-3)
Direct Red 23 is a purple-red powder with moderate water solubility. When dissolved in water, it produces a bright red solution. Its aqueous solution exhibits distinct color changes under different chemical conditions: it turns light blue with dilute sulfuric acid, forms a wine-red precipitate with concentrated hydrochloric acid, and changes to reddish orange-brown in concentrated alkali.
The pigment is slightly soluble in ethanol and orange, but insoluble in acetone. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears bright red to magenta and turns brown-orange upon dilution. It forms an orange-yellow precipitate in concentrated nitric acid and is insoluble in concentrated alkali solutions. When dissolved in concentrated ammonia water, it displays a bright red color.
During dyeing, the pigment’s color slightly darkens in the presence of copper ions, while remaining stable in the presence of iron ions.

Product Application of Direct Red 23 (CAS#3441-14-3)
Direct Red 23 is primarily used for dyeing and printing on cotton, viscose, linen, and other fiber fabrics. It can also be applied to silk, wool, paper, and leather, as well as for the production of lake pigments.
The pigment can be used alone to achieve scarlet and madder red (yellow-light red) shades, or mixed with other dyes such as yellow, orange, red, and brown to create a variety of colors. After dyeing, finishing with urea-formaldehyde resin or treatment with fixing agent Y maintains the original color base. Treatment with fixing agent M results in a noticeable blue shift in color.
